The villa of emperor Hadrian, his little private island, the winter palace, the slaves’ baths & more

2 hrLocation 1

Service Description

2hrs tour plus 2hrs of transportation (Tivoli is 15 miles away from Rome). Tivoli is located twenty kilometers from Rome and a car is needed to get there. But it is certainly worth it! One of the greatest Roman emperor, poet, philosopher, and architect lived there: Hadrian. The villa probably spanned 120 hectares, and only a third has been excavated to date. You will discover the mysterious, so-called, Maritime Theater, a miniature palace built on a small artificial island; the administrative offices, the thermal baths for the slaves, the Winter Palace. We will end our tour in one of the most magical places in the world, the Canopus, a sort of outdoor dining room, extending around a water channel surrounded by statues. These ruins retain the charm of one of the most outstanding personalities in history.
